Why Rahasya Romancha Series(রহস্য রোমাঞ্চ সিরিজ) is the best bengali webseries?

Rahasya Romancha series is a Bengali webseries directed by Abhirup Ghosh with engaging short stories featuring different shades of thriller, a crime by thriller, a super natural thriller and a suspense thriller and has been released on OTT platform hoichoi.

SEASON: 1

First season has 5 episodes with 3 short stories. The first story(Jhontu Motors part 1 and 2) is about a young unemployed guy Arjun (Souman Bose) who likes to live a excessive lifestyle but his father is not ready to spend more than required money on him. To fulfill his needs, he takes a shortcut to earn easy money. He joins a group lead by a con man Jhontu (Rudranil Ghosh) who deals in car theft. It has a series of interesting heists coming one after another. Among those, the first one in the opening of the film is the best. It is an engaging story with a lot of twist. First story has been covered with 2 episodes.

The second story(Shokuni part 1 and 2) is about a gambler named Saikat (Kanchan Mullick). He is known as the luckiest gambler of Kolkata who never looses any bet. One day he gets to know about a secret gambling organization run by a mysterious lady (SaayoniGhosh). This organization offers high risk high gain games. Saikat could not resist himself to join the game. Then later he realizes how dangerous it can be for him. And also there are some elements in the film which has no logical explanation but it is okay to accept that as long as it provides thrill. Like the first story it is also covered with 2 episodes.

The third story is set in a stormy night in Kolkata. Due to bad weather condition some transport system and electricity is badly affected in the city. In this situation a psycho killer has escaped from a mental asylum. Main part of the story has been narrated in one room suspense drama format where two strangers (Priyanka Sarkar & Preetam Ganguly) are interacting with each other with doubt about each other. Like the second story this story and screenplay has also written by Abhirup Ghosh and he deserves credits for giving the audience or viewers an intense thriller with lots of twist.

SEASON:2

The huge success of first season set high expectations for the next season but director Abhirup Ghosh has successfully handled and given the treat that viewers had expected. This season has total six episodes divided in two parts. This season continues the first story of Jhontu Motors form the season 1. First three episodes are origin story or prequel of Jhontu Motors Where we can see how Jhontu da (Rudranil Ghosh) became a con man and the other three episodes are the sequel of Jhontu Motors where we can see how Jhontu Da has expanded his crime business.

The origin story has been narrated in a non-linear format that jumps in between the flashbacks and present day situation of Jhontu. The last three episodes of the series that deals with the present day activities of Jhontu Motors is more gripping as a thriller. The fourth and fifth episodes are the best ones with many unpredictable twists. The final episode is also engaging although it suffers from some poor action design.

Although some of the supporting cast was disappointing but the lead cast is in solid form. Compared to season 1, this time Rudranil Ghosh’s character is much more layered and he has played it really well. Casting of Kharaj Mukherjee is quite surprising as the mentor of the criminals. With his talent he has proved that casting him in this character was not wrong choice. Rajdeep Gupta who is mostly seen doing comedy, has done an impressive work in a very different character. Saoli Chattopadhyay was best in her character. Also we can give credit to Abhirup Ghosh for writing such a brilliant character for her.

Overall season 2 is a good watch for its gripping story and wonderful performances by the lead cast. By now Abhirup Ghosh has proved it that he does a tremendous work with thrillers in both the roles, as a writer as well as a director.

SEASON:3

After the success of its first two seasons, Hoichoi has released the third season recently. The third season is much more thrilling and engaging. It combines an origin story of Kalo Nekre from season 2 along with a sequel to the story of Shokuni from season 1. These two stories has been connected by a common link that is the new added character of Mora(Sourav Das), a private investigator with an unique disorder called Cotard syndrome where a person thinks he is dead already.

Once again it has six episodes which is divided in three parts. The first two and half episodes tells the origin story of Kalo Nekre with an unpredictable twist which is interesting. The second story begins towards the end of episode three and continues till episode four. It is about Mora’s interaction with Trilok Chakra Samity that deals with a closed room murder mystery. In an episode of around 25 minutes it gives four probable causes of the murder which gives too less time to the audience to get involved with any of these theories. The series comes back on track in the final story which is the continuation of the story Shokuni from season 1. These two episodes are interesting and the final reveal at the end of this story is exciting.

Among the actors, both Kanchan Mallick and Saayoni Ghosh have done a superb job reprising the same characters from season 1. Kanchan Mallick has done full justice to his character adding a swagger to the character of a gambler who is not ready to loose at any point. Saayoni Ghosh has perfectly created the mysterious aura required for her character. The new addition in this season Saurav Das has done a very good job. He has proved his versatility as an actor in some of his recent works in web platform.

Mora is definitely one of his finest works. He has infused the Cotard syndrome disorder very well in his dialogue delivery and body language. Also his good comic timing has provided some of the best comic moments of the series. Others cast or supporting cast didn't make that much impression.

Overall Rahasya Romancha is a must must watch.
