This post is completely spoiler free so if you don’t see any episode of season 3, you can understand what we meant to say.(some time I give reference in general sense so its not going to spoil your watch at all). so I request all admins to approve my post. Thank you.
Let me clear one thing, its the beauty of movie, series that you can appreciate lot of things at once. We just want to tell that you can be a Hugh fan of series like Breaking Bad, Stranger Things and Dark all together. Because we love to watch movies. We enjoy the essence of these masterpieces and want to be a parasite if movies are our hosts. So this post is for those.
So lets talk about Dark and we are going to give some points to defend our statement “Why dark is the best series ever made till date?”. I give following points and give also some pictures of the series.
STORY
A. It is the main strength of any series, that is the story they want to tell, the World they want to introduce. And it is the main strength of dark after completing all these 3 season you can tell that the writers perfectly plan the begging and ending the complete story first and they divided it in 3 half. Maximum of series were stretch their story when they get popular. There are more than 5 season with 10-15 episodes and they repeats the same theme and just give 1-3 twist per season. In the case of dark you can see there are several knots they are preparing in season 1 and 2 and they successfully untied them in season 3. so its a preplanned well executed story with a perfect ending. I think they story is very complicated but the ending is so perfect that satisfied our expectations.
B. Next thing which is very noticeable thing is the plot developments. What they tell is an amalgamation of several genres like Mystery, Suspense, Thrill, Time travel in a one series. I admit its a very complicated story line but if you watch every season twice at least. You can easily understand all things. And the way they introduce characters it was very smooth and they give time in first season to introduce all the main characters. The family tree on the wall also tell the connection from the beginning. So working with all these genres together and a great ending which explain all and give us a satisfaction is a great work.
C. They successfully maintain the flavor in every episode and there is no point in this series where you cant enjoy at all or feel bored. Sometimes you cant understand what they mean or what they try to explain but if you pay attention it is not so complexed to understand.
D.
“The ending is the beginning”
All the twists which amazed us are showing from the beginning and we don’t follow it in that ways. It is a brilliance of the director that we see the series through his eyes. mainly the things he want us to see and give us the hints blending with it. And at last when they untied all the knot it is smooth and simple.
E. The last thing in this section is the philosophy of life. Everyone want to save the people they loved ( Jonas, Ulrich, Claudia Etc.). this is what the meaning of all suffering. This is the meaning of everything to feel loved by the closed ones. The entire story portrayed it.
F. The mind blowing dialogues is another plus point of these series. I think you can find at least 5 quotes from a every single episode of any season.
So I think they do something unique like Inception, Memento, Predestination which also dealt with somewhat same concepts but not a series form.
CAST
A. I don’t know how they do it but the casting was just perfect. I think it is very difficult to show different age of a same person who look so much alike but different because of age. Most of the movies and series which dealt with same concept just give makeup to the person and show they are aged or different or focuses on other distinguishing characteristics which separate them. Some of the masterpiece like Boyhood take 12 years to finish it. To show how they are growing. But in Dark if you take any characters like Ulrich, Helge, Jonas, Noah, Claudia. we cant imaging they are different persons. So it is a very difficult work and they done it so perfectly. And the series amazed us for these reason also.
B. In the case of parallel World they not just change their looks but also their appearance which was not affecting their characteristics. Which is easy to show that it is happening on a different world. Like they don’t show Ulrich is a patience family loving person or Hannah is very house wife types. But they portraying the same characteristic in a different appearance.
CINEMATOGRAPHY
This is another section they just do an outstanding work.
A. There are more than 5 timeline and parallel world if you see closely each and every time the color contrast they are using is different but they portraying the same scenes from a same angles. Just for a example if you take the drone shot of jungle or someone walking through the woods or the empty roads and mainly the cave. They just not change the elements only but also the color contrasts.
B. In the case of parallel world they just use the same mirror image which is exactly the same but opposite. And the perfection of their work is just awesome.
C. If you take some shots from the series and just analyze them you can find the cinematographic brilliance. If you look at the frame composition of the series it blows your mind.
Music
“For Neither ever, nor never Goodbye”
The one of the best opening of all time. The editing style was unique and the music take it to a next level. And after watching this we all want to find the songs and sing it for couple of days. Not only the opening song but all the songs used in the background in the scene and give the flavor properly and the lyrics somehow match with the situation perfectly if you listen the songs properly you can find the similarity. My personal favorite is the “Tik Tok” sound, “ in the woods somewhere” and “inside” from season 3.
COMPARE TO OTHER SERIES
It is a very controversial thing but I just want to say 3 things here that every series is different from other and you cant compare them from a same point of view but I think if you follow the rating it gave by the critic and the audience is 8.8 and number of people fava rating is also very low as compare to others. So I think it is as good as Breaking bad and better than Game of Thrones because of the ending. So my rating for the show is 9.5/10.
